Ethiopia and Russia Strengthen Naval Cooperation with New Agreement

The Ethiopian and Russian navies have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at enhancing collaboration in naval training and capacity building. A high-level Russian delegation, led by Admiral Vladimir Vorobyev, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, visited Ethiopia’s naval facilities and training center in Bishoftu, Oromia region, to explore areas of partnership.

Following the visit, discussions were held with the Ethiopian Navy, where Commodore Jamal Tufisa, Deputy Commander for Operations, emphasized that the agreement focuses on strengthening Ethiopia’s naval development and ensuring its readiness to protect national interests in international waters. The signing of this agreement marks a significant step in Ethiopia’s efforts to rebuild its naval force and deepen military ties with Russia.
