Kenya Strengthens Ties with Afreximbank to Boost African Financial Integration

Kenyan President William Ruto met with senior officials of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in Cairo, Egypt, including its President, Benedict Oramah. The discussions focused on strengthening African multilateral financial institutions to enhance economic integration and increase investments, particularly in times of crisis.

Ruto highlighted the need for greater collaboration among African nations to ensure the continent has a stronger voice in global financial matters. He has previously emphasized the role of sub-sovereign governments in promoting regional trade and the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), noting that cooperation at different levels is essential for economic resilience.

In addition to financial cooperation, recent meetings with African leaders have also addressed ongoing efforts to reform the African Union (AU) to improve its ability to respond to the continent’s challenges. These discussions reflect a broader push for institutional strengthening and a more coordinated approach to Africa’s economic and political future.
