Somalia Strengthens Military with Turkish T-129 ATAK Helicopters and Drones
Somalia is set to receive Turkish-made T-129 ATAK helicopters, following its recent acquisition of Bayraktar TB2 and Akıncı drones. This marks a significant enhancement of Somalia’s military capabilities, reinforcing its ability to tackle security challenges.
The T-129 ATAK is a twin-engine, tandem-seat, multi-role attack helicopter designed for armed reconnaissance and assault missions. Equipped with advanced avionics and a diverse weapons package, it is well-suited for operations in challenging environments.
Meanwhile, the Bayraktar Akıncı, developed by Turkish defense company Baykar, is a high-altitude, long-endurance unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV). It is capable of strategic missions, featuring advanced avionics, precision weapons, and intelligence-gathering systems.
These acquisitions highlight Turkey’s growing defense partnership with Somalia, strengthening its security forces and bolstering its fight against insurgent threats. The move reflects Somalia’s efforts to modernize its military and enhance its sovereignty through advanced aerial capabilities.
