IGAD Assumes Chairmanship of African Union Inter-RECs Coordination Platform
The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has taken on the chairmanship of the African Union (AU) Inter-Regional Economic Communities (RECs) Coordination and Collaboration Platform, with IGAD Executive Secretary, H.E. Dr. Workneh, assuming the leadership role. This platform serves as a vital mechanism for promoting regional integration and collective action across Africa.
In his new role, Dr. Workneh will work closely with the leaders of other Regional Economic Communities (RECs) such as the East African Community (EAC), ECOWAS, SADC, COMESA, UMA, ECCAS, CEN-SAD, and the African Union Commission. Together, they will focus on strengthening peace efforts, enhancing policy coordination, and exploring the transformative potential of artificial intelligence and digital technology for Africa’s development.
This collaborative effort marks a significant step toward reinforcing Africa’s regional integration and advancing collective progress across the continent.
