Ethiopia’s Commitment to Sudan: Co-Hosting the High-Level Humanitarian Conference

Ethiopia, in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the African Union, and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), co-hosted the High-Level Humanitarian Conference for the People of Sudan in Addis Ababa.

The conference addressed the pressing humanitarian challenges in Sudan. The UAE proposed a ceasefire during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan and pledged $200 million towards humanitarian efforts. However, the Sudanese army rejected the ceasefire proposal, citing concerns over the UAE’s alleged involvement in the conflict.

The historical relationship between Ethiopia and Sudan has seen both collaboration and conflict, but recent efforts have aimed to strengthen bilateral ties through initiatives such as canceling entry visas, increasing trade, and collaborating on regional security issues.

By co-hosting this conference, Ethiopia reaffirms its solidarity with the people of Sudan and emphasizes the importance of collaborative regional efforts in addressing humanitarian crises. This initiative reflects Ethiopia’s broader commitment to peace, security, and mutual prosperity in the Horn of Africa.
