Mission 300: Advancing Universal Energy Access in Africa

President Taye Atske-Selassie of Ethiopia arrived in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to participate in the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit. The summit, aimed at achieving universal energy access in Africa, focuses on connecting 300 million people to electricity over the next five years. Organized by Tanzania’s government, the African Development Bank (AfDB), the World Bank, and other global partners, the summit seeks to address Africa’s electricity access gap through new technologies and innovative financing.

Key discussions emphasized actionable solutions, including regulatory reforms and private sector involvement, to achieve this ambitious goal. AfDB President Akinwumi Adesina highlighted the importance of accountability and the need for a comprehensive approach to electrification. Participants, including African energy ministers, international development partners, and private sector leaders, stressed the critical role of the private sector in ensuring the success of the initiative.

The summit is expected to produce two key outcomes: the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which outlines commitments from African governments, and the first set of National Energy Compacts, which will provide country-specific roadmaps for energy reforms. This initiative aims to drive economic development, job creation, and environmental sustainability across Africa.
