Chinese Military Drills Escalate Tensions as 16 Warships and 34 Aircraft Surround Taiwan
Taiwan reported detecting 16 Chinese warships and 34 aircraft around the island, marking one of the highest numbers this year, as Beijing intensifies military pressure. China is conducting large-scale maritime drills, involving 90 warships and coast guard vessels, simulating attacks and blockading sea routes. While China has not publicly confirmed the exercises, Taiwan views the increased activity as a threat. Beijing’s silence signals its claim over Taiwan’s waters and airspace. Tensions escalated after Taiwan’s President Lai’s recent US tour. The military maneuvers, larger than those after Pelosi’s 2022 visit, demonstrate China’s growing assertiveness over Taiwan.
