Ethiopia and UAE Strengthen Cooperation on Criminal Investigation

The Ethiopian Federal Police and the Dubai Police Investigation Team of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have engaged in discussions to enhance bilateral cooperation in criminal investigations.

The meeting, held between Commissioner General Demelash Gebremichael of the Ethiopian Federal Police and representatives from the Dubai Police Investigation Team, focused on establishing a joint criminal investigation team to address cross-border crimes.

Commissioner General Demelash stated that ongoing investigations have led to the arrest of suspects who committed crimes in Dubai and subsequently sought refuge in Ethiopia. He reiterated Ethiopia’s commitment to working with UAE authorities to ensure that fugitives face justice.

Lieutenant Colonel Abdalla, representing the Dubai Police, confirmed that his department is prepared to receive Ethiopian Federal Police Criminal Investigation Officers in Dubai. The officers will collaborate on future criminal investigations, sharing expertise and intelligence to improve law enforcement efforts.

During the discussions, both parties agreed to formalize their partnership by creating a dedicated criminal investigation team. This team will focus on extradition procedures and ensuring that suspects wanted in either country are brought to justice efficiently and in accordance with legal frameworks.

The agreement marks a significant step in strengthening law enforcement ties between Ethiopia and the UAE, reinforcing their commitment to tackling transnational crimes and enhancing security cooperation.
