Kenya Recognizes Kosovo’s Independence
Kenya has officially recognized Kosovo as an independent state, Kosovan President Vjosa Osmani announced on Wednesday.
In a statement on Facebook, Osmani welcomed the decision and described it as support for Kosovo’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. She also thanked Kenyan President William Ruto for the recognition, which was communicated to the Kosovan Presidency.
Former Kosovan President and Foreign Minister Behgjet Pacolli also shared the news, calling Kenya “one of the most important countries in Africa” and emphasizing the significance of the recognition. He urged Kosovo to establish diplomatic relations with Kenya and proposed opening a joint embassy with Albania in Nairobi.
Albanian President Bajram Begaj and Prime Minister Edi Rama were also acknowledged for their support. Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008 and has been recognized by more than 100 countries, including the United States and Türkiye.
However, Serbia has not recognized Kosovo and continues to consider it part of its territory. The latest recognition from Kenya adds to Kosovo’s international presence as it seeks wider diplomatic ties.
