Deadly ISIS Attack in Puntland, Somalia 

A recent ISIS-linked attack on a Puntland security forces base in Somalia resulted in nearly 100 fatalities and dozens wounded. According to Puntland officials, the assault involved suicide bombings followed by intense fighting, marking the deadliest incident since Puntland launched an offensive against ISIS fighters.

Reports indicate that at least 27 Puntland soldiers and 70 ISIS militants were killed. Despite the heavy casualties, Puntland forces claim to have repelled the attack, maintaining control of the base.

By Strengthening intelligence gathering, enhancing security force capabilities, and addressing underlying factors that enable extremist recruitment are crucial.
