Ethiopia and Djibouti Forge Joint Task Force to Tackle Cross-Border Security Threats

Ethiopia and Djibouti have established a joint task force to combat cross-border anti-peace activities, a significant step toward enhancing regional security. This initiative reflects a commitment from both nations to collaborate on reconnaissance operations, extradition of criminals, and the exchange of crucial intelligence aimed at countering insurgent threats along their shared borders.

The task force was initiated following a visit by General Hassan Said Kaira, Director of the Security Documentation Service of Djibouti, to Ethiopia. In meetings with senior officials from Ethiopia’s National Intelligence and Security Service, including Ambassador @RedwanHussien, discussions focused on deepening security cooperation. The dialogue highlighted mutual concerns regarding cross-border crimes, particularly human and arms trafficking, as well as the pressing issue of illegal immigration.
Strengthening security ties is essential for both countries, especially given the strategic importance of Ethiopia’s trade routes through Djibouti’s port. Effective management of these trade activities is crucial for economic stability and growth. The collaborative efforts will not only address immediate security threats but also foster a more stable environment conducive to trade and development.

This joint task force represents a proactive approach to regional challenges. Continued emphasis on information sharing and operational coordination will be vital in achieving long-term peace and security. By prioritizing these areas, Ethiopia and Djibouti can effectively mitigate risks associated with cross-border activities and enhance overall regional stability.
