South Sudan People’s Defense Force Welcomes New Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. Paul Nang Majok
The handover ceremony for the new Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) of the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF), Gen. Dr. Paul Nang Majok, took place at the military headquarters in Bilpam, Juba, marking a significant shift in South Sudan’s military leadership. This transition signals ongoing reforms and adjustments within the nation’s defense structure, with Gen. Majok’s appointment anticipated to impact military strategies and operations.
President Salva Kiir, who attended the ceremony, urged Gen. Majok to prioritize professionalism and integrity within the SSPDF to bolster national security. He emphasized the need for the military to uphold its ideals and serve as a role model among civilians. Kiir specifically instructed the army to avoid harmful practices such as land grabbing and engaging in active politics, warning that such behavior would damage the military’s reputation and compromise its role in safeguarding territorial integrity.
The outgoing CDF, Gen. Santino Deng Wol, formally handed over the instruments of power to Gen. Majok during the event, which was attended by senior military officials and stakeholders. This leadership change is seen as a crucial step in strengthening governance and enhancing the SSPDF’s role in ensuring peace and stability in South Sudan.
