Ethiopia and China Strengthen Judicial Cooperation through MoU

Ethiopia and China signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing collaboration in the justice sector. This agreement, which came after a visit by China’s Minister of Justice, He Rong, underscores the commitment of both nations to improve their legal systems through shared expertise and mutual cooperation.

The MoU focuses on strengthening legal frameworks and promoting judicial efficiency between the two countries. It builds on earlier efforts, including a meeting in June 2023 between Ethiopia’s Supreme Court President, Tewodros Mihret, and China’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Zhao Zhiyuan, who expressed a strong desire to enhance judicial cooperation.

Additionally, in July 2024, Ethiopia’s State Minister of Justice, Belayihun Yirga, led a delegation to China to further solidify these ties, highlighting ongoing discussions to deepen collaboration in the legal sector.

These steps reflect a broader commitment by Ethiopia and China to foster judicial reform and improve the rule of law within their respective countries.
