Somalia Condemns Ethiopian Aggression in Doolow, Calls for Dialogue to Prevent Escalation

Somalia has issued a strong condemnation of what it describes as unprovoked aggression by Ethiopian forces in Doolow. This incident is viewed as a violation of Somalia’s sovereignty, the Ankara Declaration, African Union (AU) principles, and the United Nations Charter – claims the Somalia Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its press release. The Somali government emphasizes that these actions are unacceptable and will not go unanswered,  undermining recent efforts towards regional stability.

This development underscores the fragile nature of relations between Somalia and Ethiopia, particularly in light of historical tensions and territorial disputes. It also exacerbate existing conflicts and contribute to a cycle of retaliation that destabilizes both nations. The international community must take note of these developments, as they pose risks not only to bilateral relations but also to broader regional and global peace and security.

In addressing this issue, it is crucial for both governments to engage in dialogue to resolve their differences peacefully. Diplomatic channels should be prioritized to prevent further escalation and to uphold the principles set forth in the Ankara Declaration and AU frameworks. Building trust through communication could pave the way for more cooperative security arrangements.

Ultimately, maintaining stability in the Horn of Africa requires a commitment from both Ethiopia and Somalia to respect each other’s sovereignty. By fostering a collaborative approach to security challenges, both nations should work towards a more peaceful coexistence that benefits their populations and the region as a whole.
