Somalia’s President Engages in Key Talks with Ethiopia Amid Rising Tensions
Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is traveling to Ankara, Turkey, for the third round of talks, at the official invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. These talks are aimed at defusing the escalating tension between Ethiopia and Somalia, which threatens to destabilize the Horn region and beyond. If prime minister Abiy Ahmed is to attend the meeting, it will be the first time the two leaders will officially meet for bilateral talks since Addis Ababa announced plans to build a port in Somaliland, angering Mogadishu. This marks a significant diplomatic effort between the two nations.
