Dr. Messay is an Associate Professor of Social Work and Social Development, and the former Director for the Office of HIV Prevention and Control at Addis Ababa University (AAU). He is a member of the advisory council for the HIV Care and Treatment (HiCT-CDS) Project at AAU and has more than 13 years of experience in research, teaching, and community service organizing throughout Ethiopia.
Dr. Messay works as a Research Manager with Horn Review and directs various qualitative and quantitative research projects in the team.
He is also a Research Associate at the University of Johannesburg. He has worked for the University of Illinois in Chicago, USA, and Institute of Social Work in Tanzania as a trainer and for Drexel and Boston Universities, the USA as a research consultant. He was awarded the Civil Society Scholar Award on 2018-19 at the School of Social Work, at Indiana University in the United States. His primary research area relates to elder care and well-being.
