NRC and DDR Program Partners Strengthen Reintegration Efforts in Ethiopia

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), in collaboration with the DDR Program Partners Task Force, continues to make significant progress in Ethiopia’s Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) process. Recent discussions with key stakeholders highlighted crucial updates and strategies for advancing reintegration efforts, with a strong focus on Tigray.

NRC’s Phase One – Round Two, which runs until June 2025, will primarily cover Tigray while completing pilot engagements in four additional regions. The initiative aims to build on earlier successes by refining reintegration strategies and addressing challenges in the demobilization process. Looking ahead, Phase Two will also concentrate on Tigray, reinforcing the region’s transition toward stability and long-term peace.

The discussions underscored the importance of collaboration among international and local stakeholders to ensure an effective and sustainable DDR process. NRC reaffirmed its commitment to expanding partnerships and engaging with more international DDR program stakeholders to strengthen coordination and mobilize resources.

“Collaborative efforts like these are essential for ensuring a smooth reintegration process,” an NRC representative stated. “By working together, we can support former combatants in rebuilding their lives and contribute to lasting peace in Ethiopia.”

As NRC and its partners move forward, the focus remains on refining DDR strategies to address emerging challenges in Tigray and maximize the impact of reintegration efforts. With sustained support, these initiatives are expected to serve as a model for future DDR programs in Ethiopia and beyond.
